This trip we will take you to
the sky road Um-pung again. I have brought you through the
1219 curves of the sky road to the Thee Lor Su waterfall
recently. These trips organized by the Tourism Authority of
Thailand (TAT) Northern Region 4, and the Tourism Promotion
and Um-Pung conservation Club.

Before we will go to
the Um-Pung district, I would like to give you some
information about Um-Pung district.
In the past, Um-Pung
was only the Karens dwelling place. Many people
from the northern of Thailand moved to here latter.
Um-Pung was assigned a front city at the western
border where was the checkpoints the Burmese who
entered for trading in Thailand. There were the
staffs checked the travel documents. It was the
difficult traveling so the travel documents were
torn easily. So the people rolled the document into
the
bamboo tube and
closed completely. The Karen called this bamboo tube
"Aum Pha" and later the pronuncietion distorted as "Um-Pung
which became a district name in the present. In 2502
B.E., Um-Pung became a district in Tak province.
In
the present Um-pung is the largest district in the
country. It is about 4,325 square kilometers or
2,703,362 rai. The most area or 97% are the forest
and mountain and it borders with the Myanmar about
180 km long. |
In the rainy season, the both sides of road full of
the green trees. It is rainy and foggy on the top of the
mountain that is the beautiful natural view. Then stop at
the old Doi Muser market for sipping the coffee which is a
good smell and taste coffee.

Travel to Um-Pung,
You should take the motion sickness pill before the trip if
you are often carsick. Otherwise you may not enjoy the
journey in 1219 curves that take about 3 hours and you may
not have the opportunity to see beautiful views of both
sides too.

The way to the jungle

The
beginning of the journey, the left side of the road
is the valley and the below is a farm and planted
forest. In the 85th km, there is a
stopover and not far away from the stopover has an
evacuation centers, Um-Tiam where is a very
beautiful place. There are a mountain behind
evacuation centers, Um-Tiam, where is the origin of
the Mae Lamao and Mae Klong river which flows
through the Um-Pung district.

Then
the both sides of the road is the forests which full of the
big trees such as the Gud trees and the road passes through
the valley, Dong Son forest and Dib Dam forest which the
weather is very nice

Travel
Travel from Bangkok
by the Highway no.1 (Phaholyothin) pass through
Ayutthaya, Ang Thong, Nakhon Sawan, and Kamphaeng
Phet to Tak province. The distance is about 425 km.
Before reaching Tak 7 km, turn left to the route
no.105 (Tak - MaeSot) about 86 km to Mae Sot
district. Then turn left along the highway no. 1090
(Mae Sot Um-Pung) that along with the Thanon
Thongchai mountain.There are 1219 complex curves, so
travel from Mae Sot to Um-Pung is about 164 km far
away and takes about 4-5 hours. The total distance
from Bangkok to Um-Pung district is about 668 km.
