Namtok Sakunothayan (Wang Nok Aen) waterfall

Muang Phitsanulok Song Khaev is the important cultural place, whichhave Buddhachinaraj’s image is very beautiful of Thailand, and it’s natural tourist place also. Travelers and general people cane to visit the natural waterfall,which have a lots of beauty nature.

            Sakunothayan botanical garden before was called Won Uthayan Wang Nok Aen waterfall, located in the right side of Wang Thong river that flow from Khek river. Wang Nok Aen waterfall was known by general people since 2473BC

            On 2497 B.C Prime Minister Chom Phon Phibon Sungkram goes to visit Wang Nok Aen waterfall with his wife. Then develop Wang Nok Aen waterfall to become as tourist place for take a rest, study about ecology.

            On 28 February 2501 B.C Majesty King with Queen had to visit Wan Nok Aen waterfall. King called Sakunothayan name to substitute Wang Nok Aen until present.

            Inside the garden, it have important tree, which planted by Majesty King and Queen. Tree was called the tree of father and mother. Majesty King had planted the Prakua tree, which is symbol of happiness and unity of people in the country. Queen had planted the Phayom tree (Shorea roxburghii), which is symbol lf famous, fame. Especially to keep good environment in this area.

            General condition land is plateau, which has Khek River flow from the south section. Sakunothayan botanical garden has total land 814 Rai. Location the north section nearby Phitsanulok Lom Sak Road, south section in front of Khek River, east section in front of  special ministry 4, the west section in front of the forest and Wang Nok Aen village.

Surrounding the waterfall and botanical garden was regarded as the natural tourist place. Garden contain with the huge trees and plants, which  of them are medical and economical significance. On the other hand inside the garden has a lot of birds, in Khek River there are many kinds of fish.

Located inside the Sakunothayan botanical garden, it has Namtok Wang Nok Aen, A10 meter high waterfall.

It is very nice to watch when the water of Wang Thong river cascade down the rocks with strong current and fall with utmost strength.

On the western side of Sakunothatan botanical garden is a royal pavilion, which have been constructed in order to welcome his majesty king and Queen during their royal visiting 2501B.C and it has another that was constructed on the eastern side of the park.

Sakunothaya Arboretum

Location: Amphoe Wang Thong
This Park is situated at km. 33 of the above highway where a right turn leads to the 500 meters access road. The park name was graciously bestowed by H.M. the king during his tour of the north in 1958. Within the park area, Wang Nok Aen Waterfall, a 10 meters high waterfall, cascades among the rock to create a beautiful and scenic locale. The erosive action of the currents have stacked and shaped the stones in a most unique and uniform manner.
