This village is on the left side of Kok river,
Mae Yao, Chiang Rai. There are many hill tribes
people near by . The village of Karen is famous for
riding the elephant into the forest. There are
nearly 3,000 Karen in this village.

The Karen village is successful to use
elephant to take tourists into the forest and many
villages. Plenty of foreign tourists and Thai have
used this service with joy.
There are more than 20 elephants waiting for
service, one elephant for 2 people at 150 baht for
half hour, and 300 baht for full hour.

The elephant trip brings the tourists into
the forest passing through farm land, orchard of the
villagers. Elephat walk into Kok river creating
excitement for the passengers on the back of the
jumbo.
Elephant walks starts at 8:00 16:00
the ticket can be purchased at the Karen village or
the Mae Yao Organization Tel. 053- 737-359 -11.
Group tour should make 3 days reservation in
advances, so the elephant will be ready for the
adventure.

Besides the elephant, they have a big python
for show. There are many souvenir shops selling
silverware, handicrafts, local hand made clothing.
Still, many food shops for the visitors to choose at
inexpensive deal.
Driving to Karen village, take Highway 10 to
Mae Jun and cross Kok Bridge and turn left to
Highway 1207 to the village.

Another alternative
route is taking the long tail boat at the Mae Kok
bridge and sailing into the river to see the scenic
view along the banks of the river. The distance is
around 20 Km. and duration is 45 minutes.
