Phuket
is also known as Pearl of Andaman because of
its magnificent scenery. It is a popular
destination over the years for tourists from all
over the world looking for a perfect getaway.
There is plenty of accommodation available
ranging from standard bungalow resorts to
5
star hotels. The
most famous beach in Phuket is Patong Beach. It
is where tourists gather at the restaurants and
nightclubs that stay open all night.
Phuket
is Thailands largest island situated off the
west coast of Thailand in the Andaman Sea and
divided into 3 districts which are Mueang,
Thalang, and Kratu. The most famous beaches are
Patong
Beach, Karon Beach, and Kata
Beach.
Even though Phuket suffered
damage from tsunami waves in 2005, life for the
people in Phuket has returned to normal and
everything is back in business now.
Travelling to Phuket is easy. By car from
Bangkok, take Highway 4 through Petchburi,
Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Ranong and Phang-nga,
then cross a substantial road bridge onto Phuket
island. The total distance is 862 kilometers.
By
bus, go to the Southern Bus Terminal.
The most convenient way to travel
to Phuket is by plane.
Once you get to Phuket, car
rental is a good idea. It is considered an
inexpensive way to go around town. (About 1,000
baht/day)
Getting around Phuket is not
difficult at all. If you dont want to rent a
car, there are Tuk-Tuks and Songthaews available
to take you to places such as Rawai Beach,
Patong Beach, Chalong Bay, Cape Panwa, Kamala
Beach, Surin Beach, Kata Beach, Karon Beach, Nai
Yang Beach, and Umphoe Kratu. You can take it at
the market near the roundabout on Ranong road.
The fare depends on the distance travelled. From
the airport to the town centre and beaches,
there are taxis available as well.
If
you dont drive, you can travel to Phuket by
plane. Once you reach Phuket, use public
transports such as Songthaews and vans to Patong
Beach. Then you can go on foot to look for a
hotel. In the evening, you can hang around at
nightclubs that stay open all night.
Today, Patong Beach is filled
with foreign tourists. Most restaurants serve
foreign foods as well. But if you want Thai food,
you can find it in the town centre. Remember
that the street on Patong Beach is a one-way,
and you have to go on the right side.
If
you are hungry, stay away from those seafood
restaurants on Patong Beach because they are
expensive. Go to a restaurant on Rawai Beach
instead.
We recommend you try
Duan Suk Seafood.
In Phuket, you should not miss
Laem Phromthep. It is a rocky hill located at
the southernmost point of Phuket Island. Local
villagers used to call it "Laem Jao." It is the
best spot to see breathtaking sunsets.

Speaking of beach activities,
visitors can swim, sunbath, and jet ski. There
are also one day trip and half day trip which
offer snorkeling, sea walking or even an
inexpensive trip to Pang-Nga Bay. They are
mostly available at the information desk of your
hotel.
Furthermore,
you can get a good Thai massage which is
available almost everywhere on Patong Beach,
Karon Beach, and Kata Beach ranging from normal
shops by the street to luxury hotels. The
popular types of massage are aroma massage oil
and face&body scrub.
In addition, most
visitors go to Phuket Fantasea which is
operating on Friday - Wednesday (closed on
Thursday). There are many kinds of Thai cultural
show infused with cutting edge technology and
state-of-the-art show elements. It is a once in
a life time experience.
For nightlife, go to nightclubs
on Patong Beach starting from the pedestrian
street. The pedestrian street in Phuket is
different from the ones in other provinces as on
both sides of the street is full of A-Go-Go and
gay bars. |
