Phra Thud Doi Wao Mae Sai
Phra Thud Doi Wao is the 2nd oldest temple after
Phra Thud Doi Tung. There is a stairway up to pay homage to Buddha
at the top of the hill, and it is scenic panoramic view worth
climbing.
Phra Thud Doi Wao was built in BE. 296 during
the time of King Wao, the 10th dynasty of Singhonwat of
Yonok Nakpun. The temple took his name , later the pagoda fell by
aging, and the wealthy man with the monks and many organization
including the Fine Arts Department renovated the pagoda. They put 5
relics of Buddha in the pagoda and celebrated grand opening on
February 20, 2498.
Around the temple is the small hall
with the replica of Emerald Buddha and the giant scorpion as the
status symbol of King Wao (wao means scorpion in Lanna)
There is a statue
of king Narasuan the Great and view point for visitors.
