Eating Thai Yai Noodle at Morning Market in
Mae Hong Son
Tasty northern food is a must to try when
traveling to Mae Hong Son province. We left the hotel at
early morning, got on a bike to explore the famous morning
market in Mae Hong Son. Biking in the morning and experience
the vibrant and buzzing morning market selling tasty local
food is a worth getting up for!!
Located in the center of the city, Mae Hong
Sons morning market is not hard to find. If you get lost,
you can ask the local people on the street for direction.
They are all friendly and generous.

At Mae Hong Sons morning market, there are
varieties of fresh and dry food to buy. Most of the people
walking in the market are travelers, selecting goods or
having breakfast at the stalls, such as eating the famous
rice porridge at
Johk Sa-Woie,
drinking pork soup or
zipping a cup of coffee.
The
colorful fruits and vegetables are sold in front of the
market by hilltribe traders. Our destination today is in the
last zone of the market, the local food zone, where we will
sit and taste the famous Thai Yai food.

Walking from the motorcycles
parking lots and then turn left, we are now facing a pack of
local stalls. One of the stalls is a Thai Yai noodle shop.
The recommended dish is the Thai Yai noodle with
fried-soybean. It is made from stir-soybean, strained
and let it cool before cutting it into
triangle
shape, fried and served with noodle. You can see our
pictures below, look yummy isnt it?
The weather in Mae hong Son at this time is
usually cool, but riding a bike without overcoat can be
freezing. Therefore, dont forget to bring your overcoat, or
you can buy it here in Mae Hong Son, which is surprisingly
cheaper than in Bangkok.

The
highlight of this market is to see different groups of hill
tribes people, especially the Thai Yai elderly dressed up in
their full traditional costumes. Here you can feel the charm
of local people lifestyle and culture.
After
strolling around in the morning market, you may choose to
travel to other tourist attractions in Mae Hong Son, such as
Num Paeng Din long-neck Karenss village, Ban Rak Thai or
Ban Ruom Thai. After breakfast, we will head to other
places, lets wait and see where we are going next!!
