Of all famous Lanna monks, Kruba Srivichai was the most famous monk. There is another famous monk that not much mentioned, that is Luangpu La – future teller. He used to help Kruba Srivichai to built the road to the top of Wat Phrathud Doi Suthep. Luangpu La was known as the magic eyes to foresee the future. Even though he passed away for more than 15 years, his body is still freshly well preserved as his previous day. The body is not decaying still in the teak house at Wat Patung, Borsang
We will bring you to visit Luangpu La at Wat Patung, Bosang of Chiang Mai. Wat Patung is an old temple, built in BE.2425 (1882) by Kruba Pinta. They discovered many antiques, kitchen utensils, ancient statues.
This and neglected temple was renovated in BE.2526 (1983), the king and the queen officially open the ceremony
Besides being historical temple, there was a famous monk at this temple named Phrakru Jantasmarn, known as Luangpu La was born in the year BE.2411 during the reign of King Rama V. He was born at Bantung near the temple, and he was ordained as the novice monk when he was 8 years old and study at the same temple until reaching the age to be a monk. When the abbot and his mentor passed away in BE.2467(1924) Luangpu La became the abbot of Wat Patung.
Lungpu La was respected and famous not only in the northern country, but far away in many parts, know as the “magic eyes” to foresee the future. The legend had it that one day, it was just about to rain and the abbot told the monks to leave the dwelling place. Sure enough, the storm hit the temple and the big trees fell on the temple. The venerable monk passed away in BE.2536(1993) at the age of 69. But his body is still fresh as the same day he passed away without decaying, and he is still in the temple for people to see.
This temple is built in Lanna style, and there are many trees and natural environment for many tourists to come and visit everyday, especially the weekends and holidays.
