Kwang – the warrior insect

This trip we will bring you to see the fighting insect that can not be seen in the capital city any where, but the northern part of Thailand.

It is the highway Mae-Rim – Chiang Mai where the fighting contests are around this area.

Good warrior                                                   Good warrior

Kwang is the hard wing insect with 6 legs and horn on the head, but some type has no horn also. They like to dine on the sweet sugarcane. The season to catch the Kwang is July to October where they can go to look for the insects in the bushes or the dense trees.

Another way to catch Kwang is to use the female insect to attract the male by tied the rope around the female and let her fly around at night to get attention from the male to come in the trap.

The life cycle of Kwang is 1 year. In July to August, both male and female insects would come up from the ground to mate and lay eggs, this cycle is around 4 months. Early winter, female would dig the ground to lay eggs and died, the cocoons stay under ground until the early rainy season next year. Then the young Kwang would dig up the ground and start the life cycle.

To select the best one                                 Demonstrate to fighting

There are many kinds of Kwang but few of them can be used for fighting. The good species is Kwang- song, and the favorite food is the sugar cane for training. Using a foot thin red rope to tie the horn and put the insect on the sugar cane, using the small stick to irritate the insect to fight. Let the insect fly around with the thread tied to the leg to strength the warrior, then let the insect soak in the morning dew drops, or spray with the juice of sugar cane every day for physical exercise.

The Kwang with                                                   MoohinGood !

The character of good Kwang for fighting should have a wide big head, big and long horn to push the opponent down or squeeze the opposite side to surrender. The good insect should be easily trained.

The contest of the Kwang is for gambling and entertainment. After the competition, they usually set the insect free in the forest . It is the culture of the north, and it is the only one in the world. The origin of Kwang is in Nan, the Tawang-pa district is famous for annual Kwang competition every year for a long time.

If our friends happened to have good Kwang, send the good picture to E-mail: webmaster@moohin.com.

Note from the staff that once lived in Nan in her youth that she used to bring the cute insects to school . By tied the Kwang on a piece of sugarcane and left it at the back yard at night, many of them would came from the forest near the house and stayed on the sugarcane. It is easy to catch them in the early morning. With the thread to tie the legs of them, we can carry them everywhere. They can make money on the competition. There were plenty of these insects in Nan, but they are difficult to find now as the environment is deteriorated almost everywhere.
