Brief history of  Khantok

          Khantok is an ancient word of food container used widely among the  families in northern Thailand.  Family members will sit around the “Toke” or “ Khantok” which contained variety of local dishes and enjoy their meals.  Toke also used as container for fruits or flower and Jose stick when you pay a visit to a temple.  At present there are three sizes of Khantok with three different purposes.

          Khantok Luang (government khantok) made of drilled teak wood in a round shape with 24 to 50 inches in diameter, and this toke is used  especially in the royal residence or government offices during the official functions.

Also people used this toke during food offering  to the senior abbots at the temples.

          Khantok Harm or Toke Rarm – a medium size khantok 17 – 24 inches in diameter.  The word Harm or Ram means medium size.  It is often used by large families or well to do dignitaries .  In the temple, it is used by medium ranking abbots.

          Khantok Noi (small khantok) a small size khantok l0 – 15 inches, the same design as the previous toke but used among the small families or the newly weds.
