We will
introduce you to the protein food , it is the local food called the
bamboo worm and it grows in the bamboo forest and people collect
them as source of protein.
It can be eaten fresh as it is, or it can be crispy deep
fried
Getting to know the bamboo
caterpillar: known as bamboo worm and living in the bamboo forest,
by consuming the young bamboo trees.
They grow up to be butterfly with the wing of 3-6 cm. Usually the
female is bigger than the male, the color is brown and black. The
color of the caterpillar is beige or light brown with light spots on
the side. The full grown worm is 3.5 -4.0 cm.

Cocoon is light brown around 3 cm. grows in the
bamboo chamber, and they grow to be butterflies around July
to August. Both male and female have life expectancy of 8-
20 days, they come out at night to play with the light.
Reproduction and laying eggs happens at night , they lay
eggs in the bamboo for 10-15 days . One butterfly can lay
250-300 eggs, they can hatch in 2-3 days.
The hatching period is 2-6 days in July or August, the
worm would puncture the bamboo trees by making the small
hole and dwelling inside the bamboo chambers. Later, they
gather around and consume the bamboo trees and move on to
another chambers.
The full grown is in December, they move from the top of the
bamboo trees to the lower parts and rest from December to
May. They cover themselves with thin layers to protect
themselves from rain and enemies. Then, they turn to cocoon
in June to July. We can see 85-235 cocoon in one bamboo
trees. There are many holes on the bamboo , because the
woodpecker birds making the holes to look for taking the
worm as food.
Life cycle of the worm from eggs to full grown is around 1
year.
