Amazing bat journey at Khao Chong Pran

                This amazing natural phenomenon can be seen near Wat Photharam, Amphoe Photharam, Ratchaburi province.

Before the sun goes down, there are the countless millions of bats taking a flight every day. In the past when the forest was still fertile, the wild animals used this route to travel. The hunters found it a good spot for hunting: therefore, the area was called “Khao Chong Pran.”  Bats living in the area are small but they have a very long tail.

          Every day around 6 p.m., the leader will fly out of the cave and the rest will follow in a very long line for a distance of miles, looking like a cyclone.     This phenomenon takes about 2 hours.  The bats will return to the cave around 5.30 a.m.

          Since there are a lot of bats living in this cave, bat guano can generate money for Wat Khao Chong Pran as it can be turned into fertilizer or saltpeter.  Wat Khao Chong Pran is open at 6 p.m. everyday.
